Inhalations, Aerosols and Nasal Showers with Thermal Water

thermal water as a valuable ally in treating respiratory tract disorders and discomfort

At Terme Stufe di Nerone, inhalation therapies are carried out using the alkaline-earth salsobromoiodic waters from natural springs.

Through aerosol treatment, tiny particles of thermal water are vaporized and inhaled by the individual, passing through the respiratory tract and providing relief and beneficial effects on the nose, throat, bronchi, lungs, and larynx.

Inhalation therapies have a therapeutic and preventive effect, enhancing the body's defenses against external aggressors and cold-related illnesses.

Inhalation therapy is especially recommended for treating respiratory system diseases and ENT-related conditions; for inflammatory processes of various kinds affecting the respiratory tract, even in children and infants.

At the spa, you can undergo a cycle of 12 sessions for 100 euros or 6 sessions for 55 euros. There is no need to hold a membership or entrance ticket.

Inhalation treatments at the spa

Steam Jet Inhalation

This method involves inhaling, through a porcelain mouthpiece, a mixture of water vapor and thermal water at a temperature of approximately 38°C. The water particles, with a diameter > 20 microns, act on the mucosa of the nasopharynx and larynx, cleansing and exerting an anti-inflammatory action specific to the waters of our Spa.

Recommended for chronic rhinitis, pharyngitis, and laryngitis.

Aerosol

Inhalation, via mask, mouthpiece, or nasal fork, of thermal water broken down into fine particles (3 - 4 microns in diameter) that reach the respiratory bronchioles. Each session lasts 10 minutes; the cycle includes 12 sessions, one per day.

Aerosol treatments with salsobromoiodic-sulfate-alkaline-earth waters are indicated for chronic or recurrent inflammation of the airways (rhinitis, sinusitis, common cold, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Micronized Nasal Shower

A therapeutic technique recently introduced into spa practices, ensuring greater penetration of thermal water not only into the nasal cavities and nasopharynx, but also into hard-to-reach areas such as the paranasal sinuses, meatuses, and Eustachian tubes.

The device, through a special nozzle (rino-jet) that the patient inserts alternately into the nostrils, delivers nebulized mineral water under pressure into the nasal cavities, made up of particles about 20-30 microns in diameter. The treatment lasts 5 minutes per nostril.

This technique allows for the cleansing of secretions, including mucopurulent and crusted ones, combined with the trophic, decongestant, and mucolytic actions due to the anti-inflammatory properties of our Spa’s waters.
Micronized nasal showers are also indicated for “clearing mucus” from the nasal cavity of very young children. In addition to being a medical treatment, micronized nasal showers also serve a preventive function.

Nasal Shower

The device delivers, via a special nasal olive, a flow of thermal water at a temperature of around 38°C. The treatment lasts 5 minutes per nostril.

Nasal irrigation, which has a strong cleansing and mechanical removal effect on secretions, is recommended in the presence of trophic and vasomotor alterations of the nasal mucosa.

Indications for nasal showers include chronic rhinopathies, especially if associated with allergic or vasomotor components. Washing with thermal water can also be used to sanitize the nasal cavities and prevent inflammatory conditions.
